New Trash Collection Starts October 1
Columbia County switches to Ecowaste Solutions on October 1. Home trash service stays almost the same—same pickup days, same carts, and the same routes. Businesses will get new dumpsters, and a few extra services (like free large-item pickups) remain available.
New Trash Service Starts October 1 – Almost Nothing Changes for You
Columbia County is switching trash collection companies on October 1. The new company is Ecowaste Solutions. The old company was Waste Pro.
County leaders want the change to be easy for everyone. Assistant County Manager Kevin Kirby said residents and businesses should notice almost no difference except the color of the trucks and some commercial dumpsters.
For Homes (Residential Customers)
Nothing changes for most people:
- You keep using the same trash cart you already have.
- Garbage will be picked up on the same day and the same route as before.
- Put your cart out by 7 a.m. Collection runs from 7 a.m. until sunset.
You do not need to order a new cart or do anything special.
Holiday Schedule
No pickup on these holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (July 4)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
On those days, trash will be picked up the next day instead.
Extra Services
- Large items (white goods): You get two free pickups each year for things like refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, or big furniture. After that, it costs $10 per item.
- Yard waste: You can put out bags or bundles of yard waste every week. Each bag or bundle must weigh less than 40 pounds. No dirt or rocks allowed.
For Businesses (Commercial Customers)
The county is replacing about 700 commercial dumpsters with new ones from Ecowaste. About 150 have already been swapped. The goal is to finish all of them by Friday, September 25, so everything is ready by October 1.
How to Contact Ecowaste
Ecowaste is opening an office on Baya Avenue.

Bottom line: Your trash day stays the same. Your home trash cart stays the same. The main things that look different will be the trucks and some business dumpsters.
