China Unleashes New Plan to Expand Domestic Service Industry
(MENAFN) China unveiled a sweeping new plan Monday to expand its domestic service industry, a move aligned with its broader strategy to accelerate rural revitalization.
The initiative, released jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other government bodies, targets an increase in domestic service supply, stronger consumer demand, improved living standards, and job stability across the country.
A total of 14 key measures are included in the plan. Among them: promoting rural employment by integrating rural workers into domestic services, strengthening vocational training programs to elevate workforce skills, and enhancing social security protections for laborers from rural areas.
The plan also emphasizes improving access to affordable housing. It pledges to boost the supply of low-cost homes and ensure domestic service migrant workers can more easily obtain urban housing. The policy further calls for equitable access to public services and expedited integration of rural workers into urban communities.
By the end of 2024, China counted close to 300 million rural migrant workers. The domestic service sector—an essential pillar of national employment—currently supports more than 30 million professionals. Over one million businesses operate within the sector, which has grown to a market value surpassing 1.1 trillion yuan (approximately 153.83 billion U.S. dollars).
